G.BENEDIKT GROUP GBG SALZBURG If Austrian gastronomy and hotel business are considered to be the international standard of the quality of services and hospitability, then the trademark of the Lilien hotel chinaware also has a certain share in this success. The Lilien trademark has achieved the best position among all local chinaware trademarks in the environment of Austrian tourism in the pubs, typical locals’ restaurants and traditional cafes. The origin of this traditional trademark is connected inseparably with the place of its manufacture in Wilhelmsburg. Although chinaware production was stopped in Wilhelmsburg in 1997 (after a 202 year history), a new chapter has been opened for the Lilien trademark. Lilien is a fully-fledged part of the triumvirate of the top trademarks “Gebruder Benedikt”, “Langenthal” and “Lilien” under the banner of the first-class manufacturer “BenediktGroup”. The extensive investment into the production plant in the Czech village of Dvory in the vicinity of the world famous spa Karlovy Vary, where Goethe treated his diseases, proves that aside from maintaining traditions the Company takes care of innovations as well. The new firing furnace was purchased in 2009. The furnace guarantees the highest chinaware quality and also fulfils the most progressive aspects of the protection of the natural resources. About two hundred employees are involved the manufacturing process of top quality chinaware products. Even the demanding operations, like painting and decorating, are made manually. There was no change on the requirement of the Lilien trademark to manufacture the high-quality first-class hotel chinaware which enables customers to pamper their guests by setting tables of excellent quality. Thousands of satisfied customers from the areas of Austrian and world gastronomy and hotel businesses are the proof of this fact. Wenn Österreichs Gastronomie und Hotellerie als internationaler Benchmark für Dienstleistungsqualität und Gastfreundschaft gilt, dann hat auch die Hotelporzellanmarke Lilien einen kleinen Anteil an dieser Erfolgsgeschichte. Ob Gasthof, gutbürgerliches Restaurant oder Traditionscafe – keine heimische Porzellanmarke ist so gut im österreichischen Tourismus etabliert wie Lilien. Der Ursprung dieser Traditionsmarke ist untrennbar mit dem Produktionsstandort im niederösterreichischen Wilhelmsburg verbunden. Obwohl im Jahre 1997 – nach 202-jähriger Geschichte – die Porzellanproduktion in Wilhelmsburg ihr Ende fand, wurde für Lilien ein neues Kapitel aufgeschlagen. Unter dem Dach des tschechischen Premium-Produzenten „Benedikt-Group“ ist Lilien kompetenter Teil eines Markentriumvirats, das aus den Top-Marken „Gebrüder Benedikt“, „Langenthal“ und eben „Lilien“ besteht. Dass neben einer gehüteten Tradition die Innovation genauso gros geschrieben wird, zeigen massive Investitionen in den Produktionsstandort im tschechischen Dvory, der unmittelbar in der Nähe des weltberühmten Kurortes Karlsbad liegt, wo schon Goethe seine Leiden kurierte. Erst 2009 wurde ein neuer Brennofen angeschafft, der nicht nur höchste Qualität bei Porzellan garantiert, sondern auch nach modernsten Gesichtspunkten der Ressourcenschonung funktioniert. Insgesamt fertigen rund zweihundert motivierte Mitarbeiter die hochwertigen Porzellanteile. Anspruchsvolle Fertigkeiten, wie Bemalung und Dekorierung, geschehen teilweise sogar noch in Handarbeit. Somit hat sich am Anspruch von Lilien, ein hochwertiges Premium-Hotelporzellan zu sein, das es seinen Kunden ermöglicht, Gäste mit exzellenten Tischinszenierungen zu verwöhnen, absolut nichts geändert. 6 7 Porcelain Por ze l l an According to history, „porcelain“ is the „fired shard“ and it‘s the name of Marco Polo who said he had named this after a similarlooking shell (Porcella). Porcelain belongs to the group of ceramic products (earthen masses), which contents many different products. Mud bricks or socalled coarse ceramics are the lowest class. Earthenware, fine ceramics, majolica, faience, stoneware are the second level. The porcelain is the third level. Through the modification of raw materials and the further development of manufacturing methods we still know other types of porcelain like bone china, vitreous (densely fired ceramics) and many others. „Porzellan“ bedeutet der Geschichte nach „die hochgebrannte Scherbe“. Der Name soll von Marco Polo stammen, der diese nach einer ähnlich aussehenden Muschel (Porcella) benannt haben soll. Porzellan gehört zur Gruppe der keramischen Erzeugnisse (erdene Massen), aus der es viele unterschiedliche Endprodukte gibt. Die unterste bzw. niedrigste Klasse sind Lehmziegel oder sog. Grobkeramik. Die zweite Stufe sind Irdenware, Feinkeramik, Majolika, Fayence, Steingut, Steinzeug, Feinkeramik. Die dritte Stufe ist Porzellan. Durch die Abwandlung von Rohstoffen und die Weiterentwicklung von Fertigungsmethoden kennen wir heute noch weitere Arten von Porzellan wie Bone China (Knochenporzellan), Vitreous (dicht gebrannte Keramik) und viele andere. Nach dem Glüh- oder Bisquitbrand (erster Brand) ist die Scherbe roh (rau) und zeigt eine Farbschattierung von blau, grün, rosa oder gelb. Nun wird sie nachbearbeitet und glasiert. Anschließend wird bei ca. 1400° C der 2. oder Glattbrand durchgeführt. Die Masse verliert nochmals etwa 10% Ihrer Feuchtigkeit und hat nundie endgültigen Proportionen.

8 9 Die deutsche Härteskala nach Mohs ordnet dem Hartporzellan die Härte 8 zu. Härte 9 ist zB Rubin und Saphire, Härte 10 ist Diamant. Somit kann Porzellan alle Materialen beschädigen, die die Härte 1 bis 7 haben. Anhand dieser Werte wird deutlich, dass Porzellan extrem hart ist, härter als Besteck, auch wenn es in Edelstahl oder Chromstahl gefertigt wurde. Dies ist übrigens auch der Grund dafür, woher die schwarzen Streifen des „Besteckabriebes“ kommen: Nicht das Porzellan wird durch das Besteck beschädigt, sondern das weichere Besteck wird auf der härteren Glasur abgerieben und hinterlässt die störenden, schwarzen Streifen und Striemen. Im täglichen Gebrauch, besonders im gewerblichen Einsatz (bei Hotels, Krankenhäusern und Kantinen) kann Porzellan im Grunde nur durch sich selbst beschädigt werden.
